Sunday Competitions 2021
Reports on two recent Sunday competitions
Sunday 22nd August - We were all hoping for a dry day and we certainly got that. We were on the green to play the Butler & Bradley Trophy competitions. There were 20 entrants, 10 ladies and 10 gentlemen including some of our newest members.
The Ladies resulted in a final between Jilly Ross and Cindy Mclaughlin with victory going to Cindy. The Gentlemen’s contest was really close and the finalists were Pete Anthony and Tom Stoten with victory going to Tom.
Sunday 1st August We had 8 pairs competing in the “Mixed Drawn Pairs” competition.
A great afternoon was had by all and the final was between Linda Sturt with Kate Hopkins and Andy Boyman and Cliff Appleby. The match was really close but the victors were Andy and Cliff, congratulations to them, great bowling gentlemen.
I think we all send them our congratulations on their win’s . Coming next on the 29th August is the re-arranged Invitation pairs. Good luck to all entrants, and we look forward to seeing you on the green.

Message from the President
President's Day 2021
I would like to thank everyone who supported my Presidents’ Day, on Sunday 4th July. A fun day was had by all and, despite the awful weather forecast, the rain stayed away until after the bowls when we were eating. Jackie Kingston won the Spider, Jilly Ross won the fancy dress, and Sue Milton, Ray Brambley and Sarah Piper won the fun Irish bowls competition.
Thanks to everyone for their generosity giving up their time to help & donating prizes. All proceeds went to the Countess of Brecknock Hospice, where we raised a grand total of £424 on the day. Special thanks go to my ace catering team of my sister Helen & husband Michael, who indulged us with a lovely BBQ & salad, it was delicious.
It was a great day, and lovely to see so many of our new bowlers this year taking part. A couple of pictures of the day, you'll find more on the Gallery Page, thanks again for making it so special.

Sunday 27th June - The George Hacking Trophy
We held Club competition with a great turnout of 8 teams of 3 on the green. After some very fierce competition the final was between Cynthia Hamilton, Jilly Ross and Gavin Clifton (one of our new members) against Linda Sturt and 2 more of our new members, Royston Slydel and Martin Down. (A great achievement to get to the final guys well done).
It was a very close match but Cynthia, Jilly and Gavin were victorious. This was quite fitting as George Hacking was Cynthia's father who was a keen bowler for many years.
It was really good to see so many bowlers new and old on the green enjoying the friendly competitiveness that we have at Andover Bowls Club.
Sunday 13th July
2 Jack Triples,
Another fun afternoon playing 2 Jack Triples, each lead put up a jack which was not centred and the object was to score as many shots as possible on each jack.
We had 8 teams who played in 2 groups of 4.
In Group A John Allenby, Les Reeves and Cathy Hopwood won all their matches and played Tony and Jenny Guy and Veronica Ayres (who won all their games in Group B ) in the final.
Tony's team won the final by 12 shots to 5.
This is the third time we have played this as a fun event but it is a quite tactical and skilful so may become an official club Sunday competition.

Sunday 6th June
Club Triples Competition
We had a fantastic day and great weather for the Club Triples,
It was a full house with all 6 rinks in play and 24 members taking part. Competition was fierce, but friendly, there was a great atmosphere, and everyone seemed to have a great day.
At the end of the afternoon the 2 teams in the final were Les Reeves, Shirley Stoten and Kath Rolfe v Ray Cozze, Pete Gray and Sue Smith. After a very close game 7 to 6 the victors were Les Reeves and his team taking home a little something to drink with their dinner.
Thank you to all who camealong and made it such a great day and special thanks to Bill Rawlinson for his help with the green.
We look froward to seeing you again and to welcoming some of our new members for the next competition.

Sunday 18th April
First of the Season - Fun Day
Elainne Piper has taken on the task of arranging these Sunday games and started the season off with a 10 end game of triples. All players were given a ticket with rink and team number and it went from there.
We had a beautiful sunny afternoon with 24 members playing, following all the Covid Guidelines from Bowls England.
Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon, for all the players it was just lovely to be bowling again, especially with such a glorious weather.
A prize of a bottle of wine and some chocolate went to the triple who won with the highest margin.
Congratulations to - Les Reeves, Dave Corbett and Kevin Barter.
